Can This Week Be Over Please?

I’m normally excited about the first week of school, and this year was no different.  I love getting a new set of students, having a clean slate, and I love that everything in my class is new and clean.  But, this week has been KA-RAZY at our house.  I was going to make a top ten list, but I can only think of three reasons as to why this week needs to be over…but they are really big!

So here we go, the top three list as to why this week needs to be over!

Number One…Sarah woke up at 2:00 AM on Monday morning (the first day of school!!!) with a fever and she was barking like a seal.  Can anyone say Croup?

Number Two…Carson woke up at 3:30 AM on Tuesday morning (the second day of school!!!) with fever and he was barking like a seal.  Can anyone say Croup…times two?

At this point,  I looked at Dewey and told him, “Well the good thing is that we don’t have anymore children to get sick, right”  To add to that I think they also had a touch of stomach gunk (I won’t go into detail).

Number Three…Last night at 8:00 PM, Dewey noticed that the air conditioner upstairs was not working.  When he went to investigate, he noticed that the compressor outside was clicking and the fan was not going.

So today, as I am home with Carson (who is still sick mind you), I called the AC repair man.  He said that in the outside unit there is a switch for the compressor and then the compressor itself.  He told me that our switch was out and it would cost us $600 to repair it.  But he suggested {don’t you just love their “suggestions?”} that we change out the whole thing because he hooked up our compressor to this tool that he had with green light, yellow light, red light.  And our compressor was on the last yellow light about to be red.  (He said that it probably would last until the beginning of next summer.)  And he could give us a new complete system for a mere $3,000.  So, Dewey and I decided to change out the switch for $600 and invest in homeowners insurance.

Come to find out I love homeowners insurance….don’t know why we didn’t sign up for it before.  We, NOW, have every major appliance/system in the house covered for $50 a month.  Now, I like the sound of $600 a year to cover everything if it breaks over $3,000 just for our AC unit.

So, with that…Can this week be over please?

Do You Believe?

Okay,

So I never post anything about being a teacher, and I know that this is two teacher posts in a row…but this is G.O.O.D!  {For you teachers out there, I know you all have probably seen this but humor me for a minute.}  Our administration showed us this video a year and a half ago at one of our design meetings and it is so inspirational.  This 10 year old kid reminds me to find the good in all my students and reminds me why I got into education in the first place.

To all the teachers out there…hope you have a great first week!

1987-1988

As I start my 9th year of teaching 5th grade, I thought it would be fun to find my 5th grade class picture. I'm going to hang it in my classroom and see if my students can pick me out. (Actually, I stole got that idea from one of my co-teachers/BFF’s.  Thanks Vanessa!)

Or maybe they will just laugh themselves to tears as I did.

Here's to a great upcoming year!

{Don’t laugh too hard people.  And no I am not the girl who has her eyes closed, even though that was Dewey’s first guess.}

Come One, Come All…

Also this week, Grandma took us to the circus.  Can you tell that we don’t want summer to end?  Sarah’s favorite part was the girl clown and Carson loved the elephants.  We got our fill of circus food and loved every minute!  Excuse some of the quality on some of the pictures in this post, as some were taken with my phone…031

The stilts man was my favorite.

When he came over to us, Sarah was on Grandma’s shoulders like this…

And we thought he was going to stop to talk to us, but he kept on walking and made Sarah (and grandma) walk in between his legs.  Then, Sarah said, “That was silly” and laughed about it all night.

Dollar Days At The Arboretum

We went to the Arboretum with our friends this week and had fun too.  Thanks Emery, Baby Sarah, Teresa, and Sophia for inviting us!  We had a lot of fun!  …Even though it was C.R.A.Z.Y. hot!!!

Carson looks like he is up to no good in this picture…one of my favorites from the day!

Six Flags

Pop took the kids and I to Six Flags this week and even though it was H.O.T., we still had a great time!  It made us thankful for our rest times in the air conditioned restaurants!

“Take Me Out To The Ball Game…”

We were invited to go to the Ranger’s game by one of my good, childhood friends.  Thanks Wang Family for a fun night!  We had a blast and the Rangers won!

Annie, thanks for being the kind of friend that no matter how long it is in between our get togethers, we always pick up right where we left off.
